Update:

Here's my original posting about the "Milkies" Milk-Saver from last year! Now, I've added a contest! How to enter? Just post a comment here or on our facebook page, telling us what you think of the Milkies product, and we'll enter you in the prize draw. Draw will be on Tues, Nov 30, 2010, so get your entry in now.

What's a Milkie?

When I had my first baby at 27 weeks, (he was 2 lb preemie), every drop of breastmilk I produced was precious to that little child in the incubator. Even as he grew, I knew that all I wanted for him was breastmilk, I wanted to make sure he had enough when he was tiny and it was fed to him through his nose down into his tummy, and I could save up as much as I could as he grew.

As much as pumping milk is the only option for preemie moms at the beginning, it just doesn't guarantee an ongoing milk supply as much as regular breastfeeding does. So, it's vital at the beginning, and ongoing for many moms, to save and store as much breastmilk as they can. So, had I known about the "Milkies" milk saver at the time, it definitely would have been a great investment!

The Milkies milk saver allows you to store extra breast milk by collecting the breastmilk from one side when you nurse/pump on the other side! Or frankly, when you are just walking around leaking, like I was after I had my preemie - I think my breasts thought I'd had full term triplets!  When you have breast milk available all the time, you will never resort to formula, which unfortunately is often what happens when moms who may have trouble latching right away and don't save/pump enough.

The milk-saver is easy to use; simply slip into your bra-cup on the non-nursing side before you breastfeed. The milk-saver collects the breast milk that is leaked out when your milk lets down. You can store this milk and save it for any time you need it.

A Mom-invented product!

Another reason I love the Milkies, is that it's another mom-invented product, and I love supporting and blogging about other mom-prenerus.

I had the privilege of meeting Helen Anderson, founder of Milkies International at the ABC Kids Show in Las Vegas last month! What a fun lady, and a true breastfeeding advocate! I can tell she really put her heart into her products, and wants every baby to be breastfed.. and every mom to save as much precious breastmilk as she possibly can! Go Helen Go!

I'm a full-time military mama, so pumping is a part of daily life for me. My 14-month old is still nursing, and I'm expecting baby #2 any day now. I'd love to try out the milk-saver- every ounce I save while nursing at home is an ounce I don't have to pump later!

I'm a first time mom and am expecting in about 7 weeks! I have heard plenty of horror stories about leaky breast and would love to try these! They seem like such a great idea and I know a lot of other women who are expecting soon and I would love to be able to recommend this product to them!

I wish I had known about these with my last two children. I always leak from the side the baby isn't nursing on! To be able to save all of that would be amazing with my new one!

AWESOME! I've always thought about the waste of the breast milk on the other breast during let down...what an intuitive and might I say genius invention! This is definitely a product I'll get when I have my second child, too bad I didn't know about this product with my first! It's a MUST-HAVE for every nursing mom!

I would love to have Milkies. It's looks like a great innovative product in which helps save precious breast milk that tends to leak out. It seems to also save on pumping, so you can spend more time with your child. I will be having my second child in a few weeks and this product would be great to use, so I can spend more time with both my children.
